SOURCES OF LAW

The phrase “sources of law” refers to where law can be found. The sources of law and their relative importance will vary in different legal systems. However legislation, the decisions of the higher courts or case-law, and custom are accepted in many countries as sources of law.

In Sri Lanka too these are the principal sources of law. But one cannot appreciate what is truly meant by these sources without a knowledge of what types of laws or legal system are reflected in them.
